In memory garden there lies a giant and special rock, within which lies the fossils of various sea animals. Why would a rock on a hill have sea animal fossils?
The Chee-Shan Rock lies on top of the dah liao layer, and thus we see these sea animal fossils. The dah liao layer consists of two different types of rock formations. One is made of sand, and is light colored; the other is made of more refined sand, and has a darkish gray color. Because
of various movements within the earth's crust and blocks, what was under
sea now becomes a hill. And therefore it is not uncommon to find
other similar sea animals fossils in the Chee-Shan Rock area. |
